Scope:
The Project engineer at Stein Seal Company is engaged in all aspects of product delivery including, testing and manufacturing of complex mechanical seal systems and precision components for rotating equipment used in the aerospace, nuclear, chemical, petrochemical. This position engages in all aspects of mechanical engineering skills (mechanics, mechanics of materials, etc.) and interfaces directly with manufacturing, test lab, and outside customers to see product through from concept to delivery.
- Apply engineering principles on design calculations, material selection, and performance analysis.
- Provide technical consultation for the seal design and testing teams.
- Throughout the product design and development process, conduct design reviews and optimize design effectiveness, efficiency, and manufacturability.
- Coordinate the collection and dissemination of technical information between/within the company and customer.
- Work closely with designer draftspersons in the generation of 3-D models, detail drawings, and bill of materials.
- Manage projects by developing project plans, coordinate projects by communicating with team members and other departments in order to complete projects on time and within budget.
- Travel to customers and suppliers as required (Max 15%).
Supports existing products by investigating, troubleshooting, and finding solutions to problems, developing product improvements, and finding cost savings.
Required
- Accredited Engineering Degree in mechanical, aerospace, industrial, or related field/concentration + minimum (1.5) years combined experience in product design, development, testing and project management.
- Computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Ability to read and interpret engineering prints/specifications and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams [P&ID]
- Demonstrates a broad range of technical knowledge in subjects such as seal design, machine design, engineering statics, fluids, materials, dynamics, and vibration.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and time-management skills
- Ability to travel to customers and suppliers (up to 15% travel)
- Must have a working knowledge of ANSI Y14.5 GD&T Standards.
- 2D sketching/drafting and 3D modeling experience
Desirable (not required)
- Experience in the design of rotating equipment
- Experience working in an ISO 9001 or AS 9100 work environments.
Environment:
- Majority of time will be spent in an office environment but with regular exposure to a manufacturing and test lab environment involving noise and fumes
Mental Demands:
- Ability to handle multiple priorities, stress, detailed work, reasoning, deadlines. Will be interacting with multiple departments and working independently.
