Stein is able to maintain this key role in these sectors by utilizing our two onshore manufacturing facilities located in Kulpsville and Telford Pennsylvania.  Between these two facilities Stein has over 100,000 Square feet of manufacturing space, containing 150 machines which have been tailored to suite our manufacturing needs and product requirements.  Stein has also added 25 Zeiss CMM’s to ensure these machines are producing product conforming to our customer’s specifications.

Stein is able to support our manufacturing efforts through our full tool shop, which enables the production of specialty fixtures and machines without disrupting our production equipment.  Between the two facilities and our tooling shop, Stein is able to keep production in house, allowing our team to produce quality components and meet our customers time requirements.

The most recent advancements in our machining capabilities involve automating our processes through the use of 5 Axis Milling/Turning centers with pallet systems.  These machining centers give Stein the ability to run complex components with up to 300 unique features lights out while holding tolerances of +/- .0005”.  The machining centers are then paired with Zeiss CMM’s to produce a self-sustaining manufacturing cell which is able to process the roughed out raw material to a completed part while capturing the final dimensional inspection results.

We are proud to be a leader in the industry; we were the first company in the United States to implement ta 5 Axis Milling/Turning machine, Grob 550T, with pallet system.  The successful implementation of the first Grob in 2015 enabled our team to obtain a second Grob in 2016, which was paired with the first.  Our first Grob’s, in conjunction with our skilled machinists, engineers and programmers set the groundwork for Stein to produce our complex components lights out while pushing our teams to develop more processes using this automated methodology.  Stein took delivery of a third 5 axis mill/turn in 2020, a Mazak Variaxis I-700T, also with a pallet system, and quickly implemented it to also be running lights out on complex components.

Stein has developed an array of specialty manufacturing cells for each of our part families.  The main cells which handle a majority of our product line consist of a 9 axis Okuma mill/turn CNC lathe, 2-3 axis support CNC lathe, 2 axis ID/OD Okuma CNC grinder, and a Zeiss CMM.  These cells have allowed Stein to maintain its position as a leader in the manufacture of seals and precision components by streamlining the manufacturing process.   These cells, much like our 5 Axis Mill/Turn Cells, allow the complete processing of a part from roughed out material to machined completion with no additional product movement, following LEAN methodologies by reducing wasted movement and idle time in our manufacturing process.

Our carbon graphite machining advancements enable a clean, safe working environment for our employees.  Carbon graphite is a critical component in all of our sealing technologies, in order to meet the demand of our customers we have developed our carbon manufacturing cells.  Our carbon manufacturing cells allow complete processing of the carbon components.  Raw material will enter the cell, and be machined to final dimensions.  Supplementary treatments will then take place inside the cell to ensure the sealing surfaces are within our stringent tolerances.  The carbon components will then be 100% tested for leakage, also in the cell, to ensure a quality product is supplied to our customers.

In conclusion, Stein Seal has the knowledge, personnel, and equipment enabling us to be the leader in the sealing industry.
